Leapfrog Leapband Review

We have been having great fun reviewing the Leapband from Leapfrog. It looks like a watch but with lots of fun added extras!

The LeapBand activity tracker gets kids moving and having fun with 50 different activities and challenges, tracking a child’s physical movements so the more active a child is, the more points they earn with their virtual pet. As the child earns points through active play, they can unlock additional games, challenges, levels of play and virtual rewards for their on-screen pet.

Leapfrog Connect page

I was easy to set up,plug the usb in to your computer,go to the Leapfrog Connect page, follow the on-screen instructions and away you go!You set up a parent account for your child, where you can choose to stop the Leapband being used for certain times of the day or whilst they’re in bed/school so you have full control of when it can be played with.

Your child is then ready to roll with their very own virtual pet who encourages your child to earn “Joules” from movement and exercise – the more they do the more rewards they get to unlock and games to play. You can care for, feed and wash your pet.The voice is very useful for knowing which mode you’re in and which buttons to press.

Although the Leapband is for children aged 4-7 and the review was based on using it with my 6 year old son,my daughter (3) was desperate to try it out and I was surprised at how easy she found it to use. They’ve both been jumping up and down and roaring like tigers 🙂

I also loved the fact that it can be used as a real watch as my son is currently learning to tell the time with digital and analogue clocks so I’ve found it to be a brilliant tool for this.

There is also an Pentathlon app that can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices where the characters from the watch compete in races which is great fun for both children to play.I found that as they fought over the watch I gave one the watch and one the Ipad with the app and then alternated.

In summary,we really enjoyed trying out the Leapband and will continue to use it,my son really wants to unlock all the pets and if it means he gets some extra exercise whilst doing so then that’s got to be a good thing!

The Leapfrog Leapband RRP is £29.99
