Pop Reads Books Kickstarter

If you haven’t yet heard of Pop Reads they’re bringing a brilliant twist to average, everyday bedtime stories. They are a new series of kids books illustrating hit songs. Many parents (myself included) will admit that sometimes reading bedtime stories can feel a little bit like a chore when the kids pull out the thickest book on the plamet but with Pop Reads this could all change!

Pop Reads has partnered with Sony ATV, the world’s largest
music publisher (who also own EMI), to bring licensed songs
from their catalogue of over 3.5million hits to the children’s
book market. Using officially licensed lyrics from pop songs we all know
and love, we are creating a range of picture books for
children. Hopefully making bedtime stories even more fun!

A brilliant mix of song lyrics from recognisable songs, and bright engaging illustrations they are sure to be hit with children big and small (and the adults of course). Current titles include:

  • A, B, C – The Jackson 5
  • ‘Can I kick it? – A Tribe Called Quest
  • Girls just want to have fun – Cyndi Lauper
  • I wish it could be Christmas everyday – Wizzard
  • Perfect Day – Lou Reed
  • Race for the Prize – The Flaming Lips

We were very lucky to be able to have a look at the books and see what we thought. My absolute outstanding favourite was  I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday. As soon as I saw the cover I absolutely fell in love with the snowman with the beard. How fab?

The song lyrics are written alongside the illustrations and it had me laughing straightaway with the Snowman on his motorcycle delivering for ‘Domisnows’ the imagination and thought that has gone into each one is unreal. I won’t spoil it by showing you anymore but I giggled all the way through.

PopReads have launched a Kickstarter and they need your help to raise money to get themselves well and truly off the ground! The books are expected to be no more than £8 however they need to raise several thousands of pounds to print all the books, press records and other things.
